摘要:
The self-limiting nature of the inflammatory flare is a feature of gout. The effects of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) on gout have remarkably attracted researchers' attention. Aggregated NETs promote the resolution of gouty inflammation by packing monosodium urate (MSU) crystals, degrading cytokines and chemokines, and blocking neutrophil recruitment and activation. Deficiency of NETs aggravates experimental gout. Thus, aggregated NETs are assumed to be a possible mechanism for the spontaneous resolution of gout. It is feasible to envisage therapeutic strategies for targeting NETosis (NET formation process) in gout. However, recent studies have demonstrated that levels of NETs are not associated with disease activity and inflammation in human gout. Moreover, the process of MSU crystal trapping is not affected in the absence of neutrophils. This review has concentrated on the mechanisms and associations between NETs and gout.Copyright © 2022 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
