Objective To evaluate the effect of eletroacupuncture at Fenglong (ST40) and Sanyinjiao(SP6) on glucose infusion rate in insulin resistance rats.Methods 32 male rats were randomly divided into normal , model, medication, acupuncture groups, 8 rats in each group.Normal group was fed with normal diet , the rest three groups were fed with high fat diet .Two months after successful establish-ment of model, the rats in the normal and model groups were fixed in the self -made rat bag without treatment.The rats in medication group, according to body mass(10 ml/kg),were treated with intragastric administration of pioglitazone .The rats in acupuncture group were treated with eletroacupuncture at "Fenglong"(ST40) and "Sanyinjiao"(SP6), once a day, for continuous 14 days.After the invervention, the lev-els of fasting blood glucose(FBG), fasting insulin(FINS), insulin sensitivity index(ISI), HOMA-IR, glucose infusion rate(GIR) were de-tected.Results Compare with those of model group, the levels of weight, FBG, FINS,HOMA-IR in medication and acupuncture groups were obviously reduced(P<0.01), and ISI, GIR were obviously increased (P<0.05 或 P<0.01).Conclusions Acupuncture could in-crease the utilization of glucose in the peripheral tissue and improve the insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity .
