The classical Chinese medicine literature provides a valuable resource for the prevention and management of disease. This chapter describes the findings of a systematic evaluation of the classical Chinese medicine literature for herpes zoster. A search was conducted on the Zhong Hua Yi Dian, one of the largest collections of extant medical works available, and a total of 65 citations describing the treatment of herpes zoster with Chinese medicine were identified. Characteristics of search terms, aetiology and pathogenesis, and clinical management with Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture techniques are described.
