This chapter provides a review of the clinical study literature and evaluates the evidence using scientific methods. A search conducted using nine English and Chinese databases identified more than 36,600 citations. Studies were screened against rigorous inclusion criteria, resulting in 151 studies being selected for inclusion. There is some evidence that Chinese herbal medicine can alleviate pain and hasten rash healing for people with herpes zoster.
