The clinical application of Chinese medicine often involves combining various treatments. Studies of combination therapies were screened against rigorous inclusion criteria which resulted in the inclusion of 10 randomised controlled trials. The most frequently tested combination was Chinese herbal medicine with acupuncture. Analyses showed that several combinations of CM therapies can reduce pain and improve emotional wellbeing. Combination therapies were well-tolerated, with fewer adverse events reported compared with pharmacotherapy.
