The purpose of this work is to assess the influencing factors for postoperative recovery of gastrointestinal function measured mainly by clinical epidemiology research and prospective study. The study subjects are those patients who visited Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine and finished the gynecological abdominal surgery from Mar. 2011 to Dec. 2011. The patients who met the standard were asked to fill the Case Report Form and then analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method and COX Proportional Hazard Model. The result shows that the influencing factors for postoperative recovery of gastrointestinal function include the details of the patients such as the age, defecation habits, surgical approach, preoperative only-liquid-food time, fasting and drink-deprivation time, preoperative cleansing and enema, preoperative TCM syndromes, anesthesia method, duration of anesthesia, surgery time, blood loss during the surgery, insertion time of the abdominal cavity drainage tube and urinary catheter, postoperative analgesia-pump type, time to begin semi-liquid diet after surgery, postoperative serum potassium level, postoperative hemoglobin level, postoperative leukocyte level and postoperative fever. Moreover, the independent factors contain the age, surgical approach and the time to begin semi-liquid diet after operation. It indicates that the gastrointestinal-function of the patients are not conducive to recover for their older age, the later time to begin semi-liquid diet after surgery and the chosen approach of open surgery. Therefore, we conclude that the peri-operative taken-means such as laparoscopic surgery and the early use of semi-liquid food after operation are more effective to the gastrointestinal-function recovery of the patients with gynecological abdominal surgery based on the principles of rapid and minimally invasive rehabilitation. The study attempts to provide a clinical reference for active intervention of the gastrointestinal-function recovery of patients with gynecological abdominal surgery.
